Road trip to Fredericksburg, Texas

We decided to take a road trip with the girls and our dog Willi, to go visit our friends Adam and Doranne, who moved to Texas almost a year ago. We've known Adam for about 10 years, and he's known Willi his whole life, so that's why we took Willi with us. He LOVES Adam!

This was our first long road trip with the girls, we went to Mississippi with them when they were 4 months old, but that was only a 2 and a half hour drive! They did pretty well in the car, even though I think I should've brought more toys.. they got bored a lot, and mommy had to spend a lot of time in the back seat between them.. giving them snacks, reading books, giving them different toys, making silly faces. Prosanta may have done all the driving, and I was very thankful for that, but it's also hard work entertaining 2 toddlers in the car all day long! Next road trip, we're taking a DVD player.

Our friends Adam and Doranne live in a beautiful town called Fredericksburg, and are in a beautiful house in a beautiful neighborhood. Let's just say we found the place beautiful. ;) We had a great time with them. They both work nights, so they weren't home when we arrived, we had to stop by Adam's work to get their house key. We got some take-out from a mexican restaurant.

The next day we walked around town, had breakfast at a yummy crepe place, explored all the cute little shops, met some of Adam and Doranne's friends.. Doranne went to work, the rest of us walked home and had lunch. Then Adam had to go to work, the girls took a nap, and then we went back walking around town and had dinner.

On our 3rd day there, Mother's day, Adam made us a delicious vegetable frittata for breakfast, and after the girls' morning nap, we went hiking at Enchanted Rock! It was absolutely gorgeous, and Prosanta and I had quite the workout each carrying an almost 20 pound baby on us the whole time. We hiked for maybe 2 and a half hours in total. It was very hot and sunny, but we had a great time. Willi was in total dog heaven! We saw lots of beautiful wildflowers, and the whole place reminded me a lot of Desert Ecology (a field course I took while at McGill, we drove to Texas, Arizona and Colorado, visiting deserts and camping). After, we came home, and Doranne cooked us some delicious pasta.

On our last day there, Prosanta and Adam played basketball with some friends in the morning, while the girls and I took a nice morning nap. After, we all headed out to San Antonio for the day. It's about an hour away, and it's really nice city. There's a beautiful river that runs through town, with sidewalks on both sides, beautiful landscaping, it's really cool. There are also rio taxis and river boats taking people around. We had a nice late lunch at one of Adam and Doranne's favorite restaurant and ended the day at a neat outdoor dog-friendly and kid-friendly "bar" complete with a small playground!

We headed back home the next morning, and again, made pretty good time. When we got home, it was so cute, the girls were so excited to see their toys and all their stuff again! They were giggling, climbing on their little stools, playing with everything.
