We had a lovely time at Chaya and Anjali's first birthday pool party today! We invited a few friends with their kids and babies, everyone swam, and had a fun. Thank goodness the weather was nice, because our air conditioner broke on friday, so it was pretty warm in the house! The girls loved going in the pool, we brought them in yesterday for the first time this year, they really love being in the water... which makes mommy very excited for all the summers to come!
I made carrot cake for the party, and also some vegetarian chili and cheese quesadillas. Some people ate when they got here, some went in the pool right away.. after a while, we did the cake. We gave the girls each a cupcake, they wanted to touch the candle. Sang "Bonne Fete" to Chaya and Anjali separately. Chaya went right in, with no hesitation, first for the frosting, then she ate the whole cupcake, and then tried to get to Anjali's! Anjali took her time examining the cupcake, then started eating it as well. They had frosting all over their faces.. I must say the cake turned out pretty good. I made a cream cheese buttercream frosting, and decorated with some store bought tubes of icing, which I won't be buying again, all you could taste was coloring, and made everyone's teeth pink and purple! Not to mention the babies' tongues.. Didn't have time to color my icing different colors for designs. Oh well, next year I will try to plan earlier!
Thanks to all our friends for the wonderful presents! We got some bathing suits and summer outfits, old school Fisher Price clock and record player, rocking moose, musical bath toy, electronic book, more bath toys, blocks (which they already had, will probably get some books instead), and some cool cars! Happy to have some new things to play with! Mommy and daddy had already gotten them some cute animal pillows to sleep on, and new swim diapers. We will give them their presents from their aunt and uncle from Montreal on wednesday, their actual birthday.
